You can see what we know of our family tree at my brothers web site here.

  • Kevin Hobin Yours Truly.   Sarnia, Ontario, Canada

  • Donna Hobin My lovely wife.    SW Ontario, Canada (She kind'a lives with me and my son and dog.)

  • Paul Hobin My Computer Savvy Brother.   SW Ontario, Canada

  • Mike Hobin My Business Savvy Brother.    New Jersey, USA

  • Ours goes back to a James Hobin in Belfast Ireland. He's our great-grandfather. We don't know much of him, but he had 5 children, a John Hobin, (1850-1910) who married Anne McKee in Belfast Ireland. A daughter, who married Harold Wilkinson, we don't have her name at this time. Mary Barbara Hobin (1896-1955) who married James Hastings, John Hobin (1881-?) who married Ellen, we aren't sure of her last name. And Joseph Henry Hobin (1889-1969) our grandfather, who married Kathleen Croft in Battersea, England. Joe and Kathleen had 7 children, John (who died very young), Joseph, Terry, Anne, Brian and my father Norman Patrick Hobin. He married Mary Margaret Zimmer of Chatham. Mom was from Chatham, Ontario and we live in Sarnia, Ontario. I have 4 sibs, Michael Patrick Hobin who married Mary Glancy of New Jersey and have two kids, Sarah and Mark. Margaret Ann, who married Lyle Burt, they have 3 kids Andrew, Joe and Elyse. James Edward married Patrice Flett and has 2 kids, Rachel and Karlie. And Paul Raymond who married Leah Marie Walker from the Kingston area of Ontario. I'm right in the middle of the kids between Margie and Jim. I'm John Kevin (I go by Kevin) and I married Donna Jean Wiles. We have 1 son Colin and a dog that thinks he's an adopted child, Champ.

  • Patricia Tabor (nee Hobin),    California, USA - "I read your family tree (Kevin's Family Tree see above) and perhaps your John Hobin and Ellen ? @ 1.1.5. may correspond to my grandfather and grandmother. I know that my great-grandfather was Irish and that my grandfather and his brothers came to England, but no dates. My grandmother's name was Ellen White and they lived in Battersea until the second world war when they were bombed out and moved to Clapham. My father was the youngest son of 11 and was born in 1913, so the dates may not coincide, but the chances of some sort of relationship I would have thought were strong as I know of virtually no other Hobins. I will try to find out a little more. I live in California with my husband John Tabor. "

  • Wayne & Kiki Hobin Cave Creek, AZ. USA "My family tree comes from Bridgett and Michael Hobin in county Mayo, Ireland. They had a slew of sons and somewhere during the famine, the sons left and came here. The story is that 5 to 7 of them took separate ships to America so the entire family wouldn't be wiped out should a ship sink (travel should be so good today!). They landed in all different ports from Boston to New York to Houston and some went to CA. My bunch was from Boston and I have found 2nd and 3rd cousins living all over New England. I went to Dartmouth and they were always confusing me with a Gary Hobin who was a senior when I was a freshman back in 1967. Turns out he was from the New York clan and looked like a twin of my uncle. Anyway, there was a Tom Hobin who was my grandfather's brother (they were the second generation here). He never married but was a successful travelling salesman. He did very well but in those days there wasn't anything like a central clearing house for out of state checks. Therefore he kept numerous accounts over his route throughout the East and Midwest. He died very suddenly and unfortunately left no paperwork as to the location of his money. My grandfather sent my uncle to try to find the accounts. He found two or three, each having in excess of $25,000 in them (a small fortune in the 1930's). This money was dispersed amongst the bothers and sisters of Tom but there was probably more than $100,000 that was never recovered and went to the states. I have also been told that there is a Hobin in the picture of the two trains at Promintory Point, UT when the transcontinental railroad was completed. I guess one of the original brothers found work there. Don't ask me which guy it is. My folks have gone back to Ireland in the late 1980's. At that time, county Mayo was (and probably still is) pretty rural and poor. They said the landscape was impressive and the weather very misty off the ocean.

  • Reijo Hobin, Finland. His wife speaks English I spoke to her on the phone. If you're writing them keep it simple English please. This is what they had to say. I'm not sure what the bit is between the name and Finland, it must be in the PC language difference.

I got your 'Net' adress from Janne Hobin, Jyv=E4skyl=E4, Finland. We have
about 25 Hobins here in Finland, and we know mostly each others.
We know about our history untill the 16th century (1683), then the first
mentioned Hobin was a scriverer at the Swedish royal army. A mention is
also from a Hobin, who was a officer at the Swedish royal army. But, we do
not know the relationship with Hobis in Kanada and in Finland, if you could
please help us to clear out the history.

  • Sherri Kasow Got your address from Ray and Anne in North Carolina, who are my cousins. Don't know if there's any connection here, but darn it, you have my nose! Sorry! My father is W. Michael Hobin, born in Rutherford, New Jersey, 1916. His father, Patrick Hobin was suppose to have come over from County Mayo, or County Cork during the potato famine.... the blarney flows pretty thick here so it's hard to tell story to story. His father's name (ergo, my great-grandfather) was Martin. Found no "Hobin's" when in Ireland, although I never made it to Dublin, or County Mayo. Found many Hobin's in the phonebook in Belgium when there. Ray thinks the Hobin's escaped Belgium to Ireland during Holy Wars. My dad nearly had angina when he heard that, so I don't think I'll ever admit to this again in public. It's getting late, I'm getting delirious. Attached may be some pix of my son, if it worked.

    Best wishes...Sherri
From Kevin: Sorry Sherry, I haven't been able to get the photos opened yet, wrong format. But I'm working on it.

Ok, this is a start. Now, if you're a Hobin or a close enough, send me an email and I will add you to the list (I'm "Yours Truly").
